Take 3 800mcg tablets over 24 hours, one every 8 hours.
85% effective within 80 days of first day of last menstrual period, shelf life 18 months stored dry at temperatures lower than 25°C to 30°C (77°F to 86°F)
Effects will be felt within hours of first dose. Complete all 3 doses as scheduled.
Boost effectiveness to 95% by adding 200mg mifepristone (check out our guide on sourcing mifepristone here) and taking orally by capsule 36hr before starting misoprostol regimen.
Place tablet inside your cheek and allow to dissolve for approximately 30 minutes. Consume any remaining powder by drinking water.
Materials needed:
Misoprostol powder (check out our guide on sourcing misoprostol here)
Digital pocket scale (0.01g-100g range recommended)
Tablet press or pollen press
Confectioners sugar
Corn starch
Spray bottle
1.) Measure misoprostol dosage per gram (X) by multiplying the misoprostol dosage per scoop (A) by the number of scoops in the container (B) and dividing the product by the total amount of powder in grams (C). Divide 800 by this number to get the amount of powder needed for 1 tablet (Y).
(A*B)/C=X
800/X=Y
2.) Mix measured misoprostol with confectioner’s sugar and corn starch to fill and bind the tablet. Exact amounts vary.
3.) Use spray bottle to mist mixture with water and encourage clumping
4.) Use tablet press or pollen press to press mixture into tablet form
5.) Repeat 3 times for 3 tablets
6.) Allow tablets to dry completely on a paper towel
Once dried, the tablets are ready for use and can be taken immediately or packaged and stored for up to 18 months.
Within 1-3 hours after dose, cramping and moderate to heavy bleeding will begin. Clots may need time and assistance to pass. Pain of cramping may be more than normal menstruation, but should not significantly normal menstrual cramping pains.
Go to the ER or immediate care if excessive bleeding does not stop or slow. A common measure for this is soaking 2 maxi pads in 1 hour. Bleeding should progressively lessen. It does NOT need to be reported that this process was intentionally initiated and the medical staff will not be able to detect the drugs used. The treatment for miscarriage and abortion complications are identical. If you don’t feel comfortable telling medical professionals that you took misoprostol, you do not need to and you can still get miscarriage care.
Common side effects: low-grade fever, diarrhea, vomiting, generally addressed with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (ibuprofen) or antiemetics (Zofran).
